Ok, funny Russell backstory and explanation of my hatred for Native American footwear : When my sister and I were kids, my mother thought it would be fun to dress us in identical outfits with different colors. Well, my sister is 2 years older than me and while I passively hated the concept of wearing the same thing as anyone, she would aggressively try to assert her independence by hiding all her other shoes, thus making moccasins the only choice for both of us (Bitch). I don't think I have one picture ages 4-10 in any other type of shoe. Maybe on a picture day. Maybe. But, hopefully letting this painful story out will give me some closure and put me on the path to recovery and acceptance, especially since now there are some cute mocs out there.
So, last night my sister and I went to see "One Missed Call". I can't believe I let her talk me into it, knowing of my hatred of American remakes of Japanese/ Korean/ Chinese movies (with the exception of the Departed). I have to hand it to America, we can eff up anything much better than anyone else can. That movie was 4 shades of awful, each shade more awful than the one that preceded it. I don't even understand, as they stole the movie shot for shot from the original version. I guess a lot was lost in translation and style points. Even the ringtone wasn't as chilling. I guess I should say that I saw the original movie a few years back, and though it was "moderate to bad" as well, it was Japanese bad. Which never seems as awful as North American bad. At least when they make mistakes they're shamed. Like Gunpei Yokoi. Who? Know your Nintendo history, bitches. Ok, I'll school you: He was the inventor of the Gameboy and Nintendo's third trimester abortion, the Virtual Boy. No one was proud of the Virtual Boy, but they don't give you slaps on the wrist in Japan, apparently they don't fire you after one mistake either. In the conference/idea room, they put you in a chair facing the wall until they think you've learned your lesson, sometimes indefinitely. If I remember correctly, he was in the corner for 2 years. Gunpei eventually resigned from Nintendo, and died shortly thereafter (completely unrelated but still sad). I wish we had shaming chairs here. No I don't, cause I would probably be in one right now. Indefinitely.
Oh, and here's my last.fm quilt to keep you warm during those cruel winter nights:
ETA: It's not cold here: no snow, it's actually raining so you don't need the quilt. Sorrz!
